There's a new flat track tradition in Michigan. Two of the state's topped ranked leagues went head to head over the weekend. The match up created a "black out" inside of the Masonic Temple on Saturday for the inaugural double header.

Detroit Roller Derby (DRD) fans donned black to show their support for the Allstars who took on the Ann Arbor Brawlstars and Bruising Company. At stake was the "Battle of the Dime Martini" trophy and, of course, bragging rights.

The first game of the night started out close but DRD's A-team was able to push ahead of the Brawlstars and kept their lead. The final score 226 to 176. Meryl Slaughterburgh was named MVP.

It was another tight game up until the half when Allstars B-team took on the Bruising Company. Detroit's jammers and blockers proved to be in sync and pulled off a 253 to 144 win. Loona Rosehip took home the MVP in that bout.

We hope to keep the rivalry going and make this a yearly event. Be sure to keep tabs  here at  www.detroitrollerderby.com. You can also follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat.
