It's been an exciting year for Detroit Roller Derby (DRD) so far and what a way to end the home game season! On Saturday, hundreds turned out as D-Funk and the Detroit Pistoffs gave it all they had in hopes of taking home Olive. The intensity could be felt on and off the track. In the end, D-Funk's jammers could not be stopped despite the valiant efforts of the Pistoffs' blocking lines. The final score of the night 250 to 161. Congratulations to D-Funk on their championship and to Sykes for being voted MVP!
The Detroit Men's Roller Derby (DMRD) team warmed up the crowd. They took on the Cleveland Guardians who traveled all the way to Detroit to skate in the historic Masonic Temple on Saturday. Both teams made some new fans with all the hard hitting action. DMRD proved they were ready to RIOT. They beat Cleveland 364 to 128.
We also want to give a big shout out to all those who supported the Chemo Comfort Bag collection organized by D-Funk's own Brazen Kane. All the donated items will soon go to someone undergoing painful chemotherapy treatments. Your generosity will no doubt give them something to smile about.
DRD's next game is set for April 22nd. We will be introducing the members of this year's All Stars travel team as Detroit faces off against Detroit! That's right! We've split the travel team in half and they will be battling each other. Who will win, the Rebel Alliance in red or the Empire in black? The theme is Star Wars so dust off your Darth Vader and Storm Trooper costumes and hang out with us. Tickets are currently available at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2729939
See you next month. Until then "May the force be with you!"
