It was a history making moment for Detroit Roller Derby (DRD) inside the Masonic Temple on Saturday. The drill hall was transformed into a wedding chapel during half time of the first game. The Detroit Pistoff's Terror Ettes tied the knot with her long time boyfriend, Corey Ryder in true derby style. Family, friends and fans took part in the ceremony that was perfect from beginning to end. Congratulations to Melissa and Corey Ryder on a life full of love and laughter!
And Terror Ettes got the best wedding present. She was voted Most Valuable Player (MVP) in her game against the Grand Prix Madonnas. She and the rest of the Pistoffs will now be heading to DRD's Championship bout in March.
There were lots of hard hits and lead changes on Saturday but the Pistoffs walls were hard to beat and their jammers tough to stop. The final score 207 to 126.
The Pistoffs will now take on the D-Funk Allstars in their quest for the acclaimed Championship title and "Olive" trophy next month. D-Funk's offense and defense proved to be too much for the Devil's Night Dames who fought hard until the final whistle. D-Funk resoundingly defeated the Dames 330 to 147. D-Funk jammer Sykes was named MVP in that match up.
Tickets are now available at Brown Paper Tickets for the March 18th Championship game. Detroit Men's Roller Derby will play against the Cleveland Guardians in the first game of the night. And don't worry if you can't make it, the season is far from over. You can check out DRD's full schedule here.
